Description

Here's my latest completion, straight off the workbench - Tamiya's lovely 1/35 scale M551 Sheridan.

I originally planned to build this one pretty much straight from the box but then Marcus Nicholls posted his M551 Sheridan in Vietnam reference page on Facebook and I had a sudden change of heart!

I had already finished building the model and had a coat of primer on it, so I removed the kit's rear turret bustle and some of the stowage, then added a new enlarged basket using modified parts from the old (and greatly inferior) Academy kit.

I also used the Academy kit as a parts box, also using some of the stowage and road wheels. I added Value Gear packs and boxes and some custom-made packs and tarps from Kneadatite two-part epoxy.

Decals are from Mec Models, as is the water buffalo skull. The figures are straight from the box, and they are just gorgeous.

This one is written up for a two-part article in Issues 155 and 156 of Model Military International magazine. Bruce Culver also has a two-part Think Tank reference series on the Sheridan in the same two issues.
