Austin and Standard Tillys

Tamiya and Accurate Armour, 1/48 scale

by Brett Green

Description

When Tamiya announced their 1/48 scale Austin Tilly early this year, I thought it would be interesting to compare the new injection moulded kit with Accurate Armour's 1/48 scale Standard Tilly released a few years ago.

I set about working on the Accurate Armour kit and was pleasantly surprised at how fast and easy it was to build.

I got stuck into Tamiya's kit as soon as it arrived. Although somewhat simplified in the chassis and underbody areas, it is a gorgeous little kit with few vices.

Both models feature in a detailed construction article in Issue 39 of Model Military International magazine. This issue also includes a helpful "Think Tank" reference piece on the Tilly by Mike Shackelton.

I can heartily recommend both Accurate Armour's and Tamiya's kits as interesting projects and ideal crossover subjects for aircraft and military modellers.
