I was surprised to see the kit on the shelves of a local hobby shop last week so I snapped it up.
The level of detail on the 88mm gun is fantastic, and the link and length tracks are some of Tamiya’s easiest and most precise yet.
Things moved along very quickly once I started cutting parts off the sprues. I kicked off around noon on Saturday, and had the model and figure finished and painted before 3:00pm on Monday.
I had a lot of fun with the whitewash finish. The box art suggested there was an indistinct three-colour camouflage under the whitewash and I wanted to reproduce this. I applied a soft scheme of Dark Green and Red Brown, both lightened with Dark Yellow, before the whitewash and weathering was added.
I'll be writing up the construction, painting and weathering in detail in Issue 191 of Model Military International magazine.
