FirstRead

This new publication from Capricorn Publishing, ‘Studebaker US-6’ about a U.S. manufactured lorry makes a refreshing change from the hard skinned vehicles we usually have.

The soft cover book by Petr Brojo is in horizontal format like Capricorn’s previous books in their ‘Army Wheels In Detail’ series with all of the text in Czech and English. The inner front cover has a brief history of the Studebaker Company and some basic specifications about the subject vehicle plus the numbers built during WW 2.

This lorry was the main 2.5 ton vehicle issued to equip the Allied forces under the Lend-Lease provisions.

There are a number of monochrome photographs of the vehicle in service both during and immediately post-war with Czech, Polish and Soviet forces with location and date captions. There follows a colour section with general and detail interior photographs of a very well restored vehicle.

Detailed photographs show engine compartment and suspension. There are some exploded drawings from the servicing manual showing the dashboard, lights, and chassis.

Next are six colour profiles of vehicles in service with colour patches to identify the schemes but can be a little tricky to work out.

Finally there are 1/35 scale drawings of side, front and rear views which depict the two different body types.

I consider this a very useful little book for anyone with an interest in U.S. vehicles and modellers who would wish to detail a model in any scale.

Thank you Capricorn.
