Here we have one of Zvezda’s latest offerings, their 1:35 scale Pantsir-S1 Russian Self Propelled Anti-Aircraft System.

The system is mounted on a Russian Kamaz 8x8 Truck, and comprises twelve missile launchers and dual 30mm auto cannon.

Its role is to take on targets in the air with either missiles or cannon, depending on the range. Type of targets can range from jets, helicopters, UAVs both at low and high ranges.

What makes this an effective weapon is both the radars’ capability and also the fact how its transportable it is. The radar can pick up and lock on multiple targets up to three at a time.

It is employed by Russia, United Arab Emirates, Libyan, Syrian, Algeria, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Serbia, and Vietnam, so it is widely used.

Looking inside the box, which isn't small, you are met with eight large sprues of grey plastic, one of clear plastic and nine vinyl tyres, giving a total of 622 parts. Not a quick build!

From an initial look, you can see that the parts are well moulded, and with a very good level of surface detail.

Also included is a set of decals, a colour profile sheet with three colour schemes, Arctic, Desert and Green. One also has many other colour choices if you search the web, with some very interesting schemes. Lastly are 13 pages of detailed instructions with well-drawn plans and 88 build stages.

The first 53 stages are building up of the truck. This is very detailed with full engine, drive line and chassis details. The cab is multi-part so care will be needed when putting together, and it also has a detailed interior.

The last 35 stages are assembling the weapons system, which is also very well detailed.

I would recommend building this in sub-assemblies, as parts will be needed to be painted as you progress, making it easier at the end.

Anyone thinking this is going to be a quick easy build, think again. That’s not the case with this one. It is a big impressive build. I am aware that other brands have done this vehicle, and I honestly believe that this will hold its own amongst them without a doubt.

I really must say, that I am very impressed with this kit, and look forward to giving it a crack someday.

In summary, this is a very nice offering of this vehicle. If modern armour is your interest, or just big wheeled vehicles, this won’t disappoint.
