Hot on the heels of the very successful 1:35 scale release, ScaleX has unveiled its latest offering: a 1:16 scale Liut 2.0 Unmanned Ground Vehicle. Developed in cooperation with the real-world manufacturer UGV Robotics, this kit represents a highly accurate 3D model of the combat-proven Liut 2.0, armed here with a NATO-standard 7.62 mm FN GPMG.

While the Liut 2.0 can also be configured to carry a range of Soviet-era machine guns—depending on ammunition availability and customer requirements—this version reflects its increasingly standardised Western fit. One of the UGV’s most impressive attributes is its operational capability: an effective patrol or combat range of 20 kilometres over a duration of up to three hours. Despite its compact size, the Liut 2.0 can engage targets at distances of up to 800 metres, day or night, with a detection range extending to 1,200 metres, making it particularly effective in ambush roles.

Mobility is another key strength. The Liut’s enhanced cross-country performance is achieved through its front suspension and swivel wheel system. Airless solid rubber tyres stretched over steel rims ensure durability, while Level 4 armour protection offers meaningful survivability on the modern battlefield. The vehicle is operated by a single controller, typically supported by an overhead reconnaissance drone for maximum effectiveness.

Designed to function in environments affected by enemy electronic warfare, the Liut 2.0 remains operational at ranges of up to 700 metres under EW conditions. Its compact dimensions allow it to be transported in the back of a pickup truck, and its silent electric motor makes it ideally suited to operations along contested front lines.

Tested extensively by Ukraine’s elite Azov Brigade, the Liut 2.0 is known to have participated in combat during Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk region. On several occasions, Liut UGVs reportedly returned from missions accompanied by captured or surrendering Russian servicemen.

With this release, ScaleX brings modellers right up to the cutting edge—a vehicle that is already writing its own combat history and represents only the beginning of a new era in ground warfare. That this has been achieved with such finesse is a testament to the high standards already associated with this young company, operating out of Odesa, a city itself under constant threat.

Highly Recommended
