UMZ Scatterable Mine-Laying System
1:35 scale
Item No. A35005
F i r s t L o o k
This interesting release enables the modeller to assemble a pair of Soviet-era UMZ scatterable mine-laying systems. In recent photographs from Ukraine, these launchers have been seen in use in pairs, mounted in the rear of US-made Humvees. UMZ units have also been seen mounted singly on the rear of Russian BTR-80s, as well as more commonly in Russian and Soviet service on ZiL trucks.

The UMZ, when mounted on ZiL-131 or other trucks, usually consists of six launch units facing rearwards and ready for firing. Each launcher consists of a pod capable of carrying 30 mine-launching tubes, which can deploy POM-2 anti-personnel mines or PTM-3 anti-tank mines.

The mines may be deployed from a moving vehicle travelling at relatively low speed, allowing a dense minefield to be laid very quickly. The small POM-2 mines, in particular, can be difficult to spot amongst foliage.

For modellers wanting to add these systems to a ZiL operating in Afghanistan or a Humvee in Ukraine, the ScaleX UMZ launchers offer an interesting and distinctive addition to a military vehicle project.

Highly Recommended.
