Panzer Tracts No. 21-2: Pantherturm I und II (Panther Turrets on Steel, Concrete, and Wood Stands)

by Thomas L. Jentz and Hilary Louis Doyle

Panzer Tracts, http://panzertracts1.tripod.com/, ISBN 0-9744862-8-0, 48 pages

Here the Panzer Tracts team give us all the facts about the well-known use of Panther turrets in fixed emplacements. These turn out to be rather more common than I had suspected, used on most fronts and having three different types of turret and no fewer than six different designs for their bases. All of them are described and shown in plans, both new ones by Mr Doyle and German manual plans that were intended to be used as guides rather than followed exactly. The text explains all the differences of turrets and bases, and there are many extracts from German reports as well. A good collection of wartime photographs shows the turrets and their bases, and some show the base interiors (which are also in the various plans). Everything is here for modellers to build their own Pantherturm emplacements in dioramas!

Recommended.
