Eduard Tiger (P) (35789)

by Frank De Sisto

Photo-etched brass in 1/35th-scale for Dragon kit. Price: $22.95 USD.

I must confess up front that I am disappointed with this set. Although the DML kit provides some basic etched parts, including a set of screens for the pair of grills on either side of the engine deck, it ignored the screens (seen in photos) on the large single grill that runs laterally on the rear-most section of the engine deck. I had hoped Eduard would provide these when they came out with a detail set, but they did not. However, they do provide the same screens that DML does. Hence, my disappointment.

On the other hand, what Eduard does provide is welcome. This set includes new fender braces (which are separate plastic parts in the DML kit) as well as front and rear mud flaps. There is a very nicely done (and easy-to-assemble) set of tow cable storage brackets and clamps, as well as fine details for the jack blocks. All tools get new clamps and brackets, while the rear blackout lamps are replaced with etched parts. The remainder of this set contains a very useful smoke candle basket as seen on the commander’s cupola, as well as details for the hatches and turret storage box. This simple, yet incomplete set ought to please, but might leave modelers wanting more.

Recommended with reservations.
