FirstLook

Over the last decade or two, Tamiya's 1:35 scale figures have taken great strides in quality, particularly their faces and general poses.

I have been very pleased to use Tamiya's recent crew figures straight from the kit box without any hesitation or fear of compromise.

These new-generation figures have been available as part of military vehicle kits and a growing range of standalone figure offerings including their U.S. Tank Crew European Theatre and German Tank Crew and Infantry sets.

Now Tamiya has added a 1:35 scale German Machine Gun Team (Mid-WWII) to their range. Five full figures are included. These are made up from 106 parts in grey plastic.

Facial expressions are neutral and sculpting is excellent.

Five Wehrmacht soldiers are provided. All are wearing helmets.

The figures are depicted in action. One is carrying two ammunition boxes, one is kneeling and firing his MP 40 machine pistol, another is kneeling on both knees and firing his MG 42 machine gun on its bipod, one is firing his MG 34 on the ground, while the remaining figure is feeding ammunition.

Tamiya has even supplied two sides of a broken brick wall to support the MG 42's bipod - instant vignette!

A single oval shaped plastic base is also offered for the walking figure.

Weapons, canteens, gas mask cases, bread bags, mess tins and trenching tools are supplied as separate parts.

The machine guns, their mounts and the sagging ammunition belt are delicately detailed and perfectly moulded.

Decals are supplied for shoulder epaulets, collar insignia, cap badges, sleeve rank insignia, chest eagles, belt buckles, medals and ribbons.

These will be much easier and more precise than painting.

Instructions are provided for placement of the decals.

Highly Recommended.
