WWII US Army Infantry at RestTamiya, 1/48 scale
FirstLook Tamiya has released another of their infantry sets in 1/48 scale, WWII US Army Infantry at Rest, but with a real bonus. Although it is obscured on the box art and barely mentioned on any of the packaging, even then only as a "Light Vehicle", there is a highly detailed 1/48 scale Jeep also included. Presumably, this rather coy labeling has to do with licensing and trade mark issues, but it has not prevented Tamiya from applying their customary treatment to this little gem, which will be equally useful to military and aircraft modellers. The Jeep itself comprises 62 parts in Olive Green plastic and four parts in clear (although my clear sprue seems to have vanished!).

This vehicle is clearly superior to Hasegawa's Jeep released recently in the same scale. In addition to the Jeep, a sprue of stowage, Jerry cans and fuel drums is also provided.
Finally, the nominal subject of this set is eight figures comprising 44 parts. These include a driver for the Jeep, a seated infantyman, a senior officer and five GIs standing in various casual poses. These figures are typical of Tamiya's 1/48 scale offerings - versatile poses and respectably done, but not the greatest facial detail. Even so, the straightforward parts breakdown will be appreciated by many, and the figures will have almost unlimited applications for 1/48 scale vignettes and dioramas.

Highly Recommended. Purchased by Missing-Lynx
