Sherman Firefly VC

Tasca 1/35 scale
by Chris Wauchop

Construction

Here is my Tasca 1/35 scale Sherman Firefly VC, finished in the markings of the East Riding Yeomanry, 27th Armoured Brigade on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

Construction was quite straightforward, but the lack of any English in the instructions did not help!

Extras for this project include Aber's amazingly detailed photo-etched set, "35 215 British Sherman VC Firefly Vol.1 Basic(!) Set".

I also used Aber's turned aluminimum 17 pdr Mk.IV Barrel, part number 35L-57. Very nice it is too!

Accurate Armour's A051 acessory set was also used for the rear turret stowage bin.

Bison Decals' sheet number 35050 provided the markings. These performed perfectly, although the registration was slightly out.

Antennas were made from brass wire.

Painting, Markings and Weathering

The overall colour is Tamiya Dark Green XF-61, with areas faded in Tamiya Khaki XF-49. This was followed by a light overspray of Tamiya Gloss Clear X-22. All woodwork was painted with Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow, then given a wash of water thinned X-26 Clear Orange.

Decals were applied with the aid of Gunze Sangyo's "Mr Mark Setter" and "Mr Mark Softer". After the decals had set,  dulling coat of Polly Scale Flat finish was applied.

The model was then scrubbed and dusted with Pastel chalk dust.
