Otter, Light Recce Car
Paul Roberts
Commanders Series 1/35 kitThe Otter was built by GM Canada as a replacement/substitute for the Humber Light Recce car. While roomier than the Humber, the Otter was somewhat underpowered and a little more likely to overturn because of its higher centre of gravity. Still it was produced in significant numbers and used by Canadian forces throughout the latter part of the war and by the RAF Regiment as an airfield defence vehicle.
This is the Commander's kit with a scratchbuilt turret interior and gun mount, additional stowage boxes and various small details added. It represents a 2 Platoon car of 18 Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers, attached to 3 Cdn Inf Div, in France, June, 1944.
